Several years ago Vintage Bliss was interviewed for an article regarding sustainable fashion. We were thrilled to be included in the discussion and consider choosing vintage as a linchpin in sustainable fashion. Full article here
"Sustainable fashion is part of the larger trend of sustainable design where a product is created and produced with consideration to the environmental and social impact it may have throughout its total life span, including its "carbon footprint". According to the May 2007 Vogue, sustainable fashion appears not to be a short-term trend but one which could last multiple seasons. While environmentalism used to manifest itself in the fashion world through a donation of percentage of sales of a product to a charitable cause, fashion designers are now re-introducing eco-conscious methods at the source through the use of environmentally friendly materials and socially responsible methods of production.."
The above definition (thanks to Wiki) could very easily include a nod to choosing vintage fashion along with - or instead of - new production. At Vintage Bliss, we believe wearing vintage is an eco-chic choice and one that has a positive environmental impact where no energy or new resources have been used to create these pieces. For people who are concerned about the future of this planet, and conserving our scarce resources, we encourage you to choose vintage clothing as an alternative to newly produced goods.
